Prof. Grasselli is Full Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Milan. He is the Director of the Department of Emergency of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan (Italy), a tertiary referral Center for the treatment of patients with acute respiratory failure and with extensive research experience in the fields of mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiology and extracorporeal respiratory support. He is one of the coordinators of the Italian ECMO Network and he is has coordinated the Regional Network of COVID-19 ICUs in Lombardy. He is the immediate past Secretary of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and the President elect of the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy (SIAARTI). He is the author of more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed journals, with an H-index of 59 and more than 24,000 citations. His research activity focuses on pathophysiology of respiratory failure, ARDS, extracorporeal support, sepsis and nosocomial infections.
